By 21:30 UTC this evening there was a nice well-defined arc of aurora developing across the northern sky. It quickly expanded into multiple bands of dancing aurora that flickered across the sky (Images 1 and 2). The activity stayed relatively low down across the northern horizon at ≤45°. Some tall rays were present above the main bands for a short period (Image 3). Unfortunately there was a large area of cloud developing at my location and creeping northwards, so my viewing time this evening was reduced. However, a very vibrant band of aurora was still visible low down in the sky when I gave up and returned home due to the cloud (Images 4 and 5).
