There was a weak aurora visible as soon as it became dark enough this evening, but it was difficult to see through the twilight. At 00:31 a tall ray was briefly visible over the mountain in the north-east (Image 1), with a weaker band of green visible higher in the sky through the cloud. This weaker band intensified slowly (or perhaps it just became more visible as the sky slowly darkened), as shown in Image 2. By 01:15 it was apparent as a thick band high across the northern sky (Image 3). Between 01:19 and 01:20 the band intensified and became very bright to the eye for a 60 second period (Images 4 and 5), with some slight dancing movement and rayed structure. After that, the activity weakened again and I ended observations at 01:30 as it was clouding over again.
